About the audio here
This site provides audio narrations of both American historical works and current government publications.
The audio on this site is in the AAC format. This choice over MP3 was in part to allow the longer recordings to be divided into chapters. The audio was formatted in Garage Band, so it's especially iPod-friendly.-

About
Hi, I’m Michael Scherer and this site provides some of my audio narrations. I’ve been recording audiobooks for about 10 years. Some of the books I’ve done for the Library of Congress can be seen here. I also narrated the NRSV Bible for Pauline Books & Media.
The audio on this site is in two basic categories: historical and current. The historical works are significant contributions to the great American experiment.
The current works are government publications, and are interesting to contrast with the historical works. Government publications are in the public domain (not copyrighted), and are a special form of government-to-citizen communication. There are many government publications available, so why were these chosen? I think that one of the most important developments in modern times is the American military’s post-Cold War adjustments, and this ongoing transformation is documented in some of the publications included here.
Americana Phonic is young. Over time, it will change and improve. Please let your friends know about it. I hope that this site comes to be seen as a valuable contribution to American education. We should all know the circumstances and principles and difficulties in which this nation was formed, and now must find a way to become citizens of the world without leaving behind the great American core, which is generous in all things, which loves like a mother, guides like a father, and on whom we all trust for our well-being as this new century emerges. Good luck my friends! Our destiny awaits!
